LONG BEACH, NY, 16.01.2016

I haven’t posted for a week or so as I’ve been traveling and when I’ve had some time to, I’ve been beset with some poor internet quality. That seems to be a common thing in hotels in the USA, well in my limited experience in the last couple of weeks.

It’s winter time here and I’ve been to both the East Coast and the West. While in New York I’ve stayed at Long Beach, which is kind of close to where work has taken me and where the people I’ve been working with live. I’ve been here several times, but never in winter.

In summer it’s a busy, vibrant place. It’s  community that was hit very hard by hurricane Sandy. The last time I was here two and a half years ago, there was sand in streets where it had no right to be. That was many months after the storm had been through. The destruction Sandy has caused affected the community for a long time and still does, you can still see the evidence of rebuilding.

The beach is not normally a place I visit in summer, it’s just doesn’t give me that much pleasure, unless it’s for a quick dip and I’m off. It’s certainly not a place I’d normally consider as a winter time hang out. But with a little time on my hands I thought I’d pay a visit, the weather was a balmy 9°C, certainly better than earlier in the week.

With the sun shining through and the wind up it made for some interesting photos. It’s good to see the board walk back, as it hadn’t been repaired the last time I visited.

Looking forward to coming back again in summer time.
